Scientifically proven is the influence of the weather on the well-being of the alpine foehn. According to a survey by the Institute for Demoscopy in Allensbach, around two-thirds of the population is affected by the fact that the weather generally has an impact on health.

Weather sensitivity: Everybody is different

The range of weather sensitivity symptoms is large. It ranges from headache and body aches, to frequent lack of energy, to lack of concentration and irritability. In sensitive people, the sensitivity to the weather, also known as biotropism, can even lead to insomnia, depression and a general lack of life. The main victims are women rather than men, older rather than younger.

Sick in the true sense, the weather can not. However, it can exacerbate existing or hidden diseases in the body. Scientists distinguish different degrees of severity:

  • The term "sensitive to the weather" refers to the worsening of existing illnesses such as cardiovascular problems, arteriosclerosis and rheumatism, or the recurrence of old injuries (broken bones) in the event of changes in the weather.

Health consequences of the weather

Another weather phenomenon is electromagnetic and fast light pulses, the so-called Spherics. Often Spherics occur before thunderstorms, bad weather or fair weather fronts and at a meeting of cold and warm air masses. They hurry ahead of the actual weather with almost the speed of light. For sensitive people, it may therefore come long before a change in the weather to first complaints. It is believed that spherics can affect electrical stimulation of the nervous system.

A shield of these waves or rays is not possible. They penetrate every wall of the house, causing the well-known interference on the radio. Whether and to what degree gravitational waves and spherics are actually triggers of weather sensitivity is currently being investigated in studies.

The cause is in the air

In the meantime, it has been researched when Central Europeans feel most comfortable. Nature has established that the human organism can withstand climatic fluctuations of up to 20 degrees Celsius and more without major problems. But at a moderate temperature of 20 to 25 degrees, sunshine and high pressure weather, the burden on the circulation is usually the lowest.

However, this statement does not apply without restriction, because: Low air exchange, as is typical for long-term high-pressure areas, leads in summer and winter to an accumulation of pollutants in ground-level air layers. And so in extremely hot summers, not only the sweltering heat, but also dust and ozone can lead to sometimes severe physical complaints.
